“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

I fear for us as Americans.

The first guy (a UCLA graduate) used all 3 of his “cheats” on the first 3 questions, had “dropped out” after expending all of them.  The guy didn’t know that polar bears DON’T eat penguins, didn’t know how to get the height of a triangle knowing the base and area, didn’t know that Andrew Johnson was the first US president to be impeached (and the dude majored in US History).  I am saddened.

Second woman was unsure that the Mayflower was the ship the pilgrims used to sail to Plymouth in 1620.  She didn’t know what REM stands for.

The show continues tomorrow.  I’ll be sure to tune in, if only so I feel better about myself and my college education (that I haven’t forgotten yet.)

Cross-Bloggage

So, yeah, I have a 2nd blog.  It’s about poker.

In the latest entry, you can read about how I donked off (translation for the poker illiterate: lost in amateur fashion) 3000 tournament chips in one hand.  Yay? No.  Not yay.  This is the direct opposite of yay, whatever that is.

Temporary Change: Blog Look

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

As you can see, I changed the look of the blog to the WordPress default. The theme I’ve been using for a while, a modified version of blix, broke when I updated WordPress from 2.0.x to 2.1. Specifically, the navigation bar at the top did not display the static pages (the about page, the “what am I watching” page, etc.)

So, until a new version comes out, or until I learn enough PHP to look through the code myself, it’s default WordPress theme for me!

1994 Blockbuster Video World Game Championship: The End

Monday, February 5th, 2007

This weekend was the “big thing” in my life up to this point. This would be a defining moment in my life. (P.S. in case you don’t notice, I jump between present, past and future tense in this write-up. I’m not submitting this for a writing award, so just bear with it.)
